The African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, has officially unveiled Prof. Chief Chris Uba as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Announcing the development during the formal presentation of the party’s presidential and governorship candidates, Gombe said the ADC had zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria in line with the principles of equity, fairness, inclusiveness, and federal character.
According to him, the emergence of Uba followed the successful completion of the party’s nationwide primary elections conducted through a consensus arrangement as provided under the Electoral Act 2026.
Gombe disclosed that three aspirants initially purchased the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the presidential race. They were Dr. Bashir Mohammed Sani, Prince Williams Charles, and Prof. Chief Chris Uba.
He explained that, in accordance with Section 84(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which recognizes consensus as a legitimate method for selecting candidates, the party adopted the consensus approach for its presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly primaries.
“In the interest of party unity and cohesion, two of the presidential aspirants voluntarily stepped down and endorsed Prof. Chief Chris Uba as the party’s sole presidential candidate,” Gombe said.
He added that Uba was subsequently returned unopposed and duly elected as the ADC’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 elections.
The party chairman further stated that the ADC leadership was presenting a comprehensive list of candidates who emerged through the party’s constitutionally approved internal democratic processes. The list includes the presidential candidate and governorship candidates across 29 states of the federation.
Gombe noted that the party had successfully concluded all its primaries, describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and fully compliant with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act 2026, the ADC Constitution, and the party’s electoral guidelines.
He said the process strengthened unity within the party and demonstrated its commitment to fielding credible, qualified, and constitutionally compliant candidates for all elective positions in the forthcoming elections.
The ADC chairman expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in 2027 and prayed for wisdom, guidance, and success in the electoral contests ahead.
